Use of KWL Plus to Enhance English Reading Ability of First-Year Students at Lampang Rajabhat University

The study employed a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and percentage. The findings revealed that the posttest mean score (𝑥̅= 24.07, SD = 0.88, 80.23%) was higher than the pretest mean score
(𝑥̅= 18.05, SD = 1.02, 60.17%). Students showed clear improvement in several aspects of reading, including identifying main ideas, summarizing essential information, formulating questions, and organizing content systematically. Evidence from the learning progress records indicated that students increasingly demonstrated the ability to link prior knowledge with new information and manage their own learning processes - skills closely related to analytical thinking and fundamental to life-long learning.
The results indicate that the KWL Plus technique is an effective instructional strategy for developing the English reading ability of first-year university students.
It enhances comprehension, analytical thinking, summarization, and information organization, while also promoting self-directed learning, which serves as a foundation for life-long learning. The technique is suitable for application in English language instruction within the context of Rajabhat universities.
