Ethics in Publishing Academic and Research Works

Publication Ethics

To ensure that academic communication is accurate, high-quality, transparent, fair, and consistent with national and international academic publishing standards, the Journal of Management Science, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University has established publication ethics guidelines for all relevant parties, namely the Editor, Authors, and Reviewers. All parties are required to study and strictly comply with these guidelines for the benefit of authors, readers, the academic community, educational institutions, and society as a whole.

Duties of Editors

  1. The editor must maintain the confidentiality of authors’ and reviewers’ information and must not disclose such information to unauthorized persons during the manuscript consideration and review process.
  2. The editor must examine submitted manuscripts for duplication or plagiarism in order to prevent academic misconduct and the unauthorized use of others’ work.
  3. The editor must not have any conflict of interest with authors, reviewers, editorial board members, or other parties involved in the manuscript consideration process.
  4. The editor must not consider manuscripts that have previously been published in any journal, book, or other publication venue. The editor must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original works. If duplicate publication, redundant research data, unauthorized reuse, or improper citation is later detected, the editor must take appropriate and prompt action in accordance with the journal’s procedures.
  5. The editor must seriously examine manuscripts for plagiarism. The journal requires plagiarism or similarity checking through appropriate tools, such as ThaiJO’s similarity-checking system or other tools specified by the journal. The similarity level of each manuscript must comply with the criteria established by the journal.
  6. The editor must clearly, transparently, and verifiably announce the journal’s publication fee policy. If the journal does not charge any publication fee, this must be clearly stated in the journal’s announcements or policies.
  7. The editor must ensure that articles are published in accordance with the journal’s stated policies, including article types, number of issues per year, publication schedule, and scope of accepted fields.
  8. The editor must strictly oversee the quality of articles before publication to ensure that they are academically sound, accurate, and consistent with the journal’s standards.
  9. The editor must not publish a significant number of their own articles in their own journal in a manner that may raise concerns regarding publication ethics.
  10. The editor must not implement or encourage inappropriate practices to increase citations to articles published in their own journal, such as requiring or pressuring authors to cite journal articles without valid academic justification.

Duties of Authors

  1. Authors must certify that the manuscript submitted for publication consideration is their own original work and has not been copied, imitated, modified, or falsely claimed from the work of others. If authors use ideas, texts, data, images, tables, or works of others, proper and clear citation must be provided.
  2. Authors must fully disclose all information related to the manuscript, including research funding sources, supporting organizations, or any other interests that may be related to the research or manuscript preparation.
  3. Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals at the same time and must not submit manuscripts that have already been published in other journals or publication venues. If the manuscript is related to previously published work, this relationship must be clearly stated and properly cited.
  4. Authors must give credit to all co-researchers or co-authors who have genuinely contributed to the research and manuscript preparation. The names of all co-authors must be accurately, completely, and fairly listed.
  5. Authors must certify that the data, research findings, analysis, and conclusions presented in the manuscript are true, accurate, and not distorted. If errors are found after submission or publication, authors must immediately notify the editor so that corrections or retraction can be made as appropriate.
  6. Authors must comply with research ethics, laws, regulations, and requirements relevant to the research, particularly studies involving human participants, animals, personal data, or ethically sensitive issues.
  7. Authors must present information in the manuscript completely, clearly, and verifiably, including research objectives, research methodology, findings, data analysis, and recommendations. Authors must not conceal important information or distort research findings.
  8. Authors must respect the rights, privacy, and dignity of research participants. Consent must be obtained from participants before data collection, and personal data must be protected in accordance with ethical principles and relevant laws.

Duties of Reviewers

  1. Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts assigned to them for review. They must not disclose information, content, research findings, or any details of the manuscript to unauthorized persons. Reviewers must not use information from the manuscript for personal benefit, research, or publication without permission from the authors.
  2. Reviewers must study the journal’s review format, criteria, and guidelines in order to evaluate manuscripts accurately, in accordance with the journal’s requirements, and in a manner that helps improve manuscript quality.
  3. Reviewers must provide constructive, clear, reasonable, and useful comments to help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts. Review reports should contain sufficient detail and be consistent with academic standards.
  4. Reviewers must not have any conflict of interest with the authors, manuscript, or manuscript content. If reviewers identify any conflict of interest or relationship that may affect the impartiality of the review, they must immediately notify the editor and decline to review the manuscript.
  5. Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts fairly, objectively, and without bias. Evaluation must be based solely on content quality, methodological accuracy, academic appropriateness, clarity of presentation, and academic contribution.
  6. Reviewers must be responsible in carrying out the review process and must submit their review results within the timeframe specified by the journal. If reviewers are unable to complete the review on time, they should notify the editor in advance as soon as possible.
  7. Reviewers must comply with ethical principles in manuscript review, including confidentiality, non-disclosure of personal information of research participants, consideration of research ethics compliance, and the provision of comments using polite, appropriate, and academic language.

The Journal of Management Science, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University places importance on publication ethics, transparency, and the academic quality of all articles. If any action is found to violate publication ethics, the journal will take appropriate measures in accordance with its procedures and relevant academic standards.
