Abstract

The purpose of this research were to study. 1) The collection and classification of light handicraft folk wisdom, and 2) The methods of transferring in the aspect of light handicraft folk wisdom of Sena District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The qualitative research methodology was employed. The population were 30 informants consisting of Tambon headmen, village headmen, and local wisdom scholars. The instruments for collecting data were interview form and in-depth interview. The data were analyzed by content form and presented in descriptive analysis.

The result of the research are as follow:

  1. The collection and classification of light handicraft folk wisdom, there were 4 categories and 18 types consisting of the following. 1) There were 5 types of basketwork, consisting of kenaf basket entwining, rattan basket entwining, palm leaf hat entwining, plastic basket entwining, and bamboo chicken coop entwining. 2) There were 4 types of sewing, consisting of fabric bag entwining, broom making, genuine cowhide sewing, and loincloth-patterned shirt sewing. 3) There was 1 type of weaving which sedge mat was weaving. 4) There were 4 miscellaneous works consisting of artificial flower making, fish trap making, mouse trap and coconut midrib mobile.
  2. The methods of transferring in the local wisdom aspect of light handicraft folk wisdom consisting of kenaf basket entwining, rattan basket entwining, palm leaf hat entwining, plastic basket entwining, bamboo chicken coop entwining, fabric bag entwining, broom making, genuine cowhide sewing, loincloth-patterned shirt sewing, sedge mat weaving, artificial flower making, fish trap making, mouse trap and coconut midrib mobile were inherited from ancestors by observing and self-practicing. The taught content was not recorded in writing. In teaching, the methods of individual practicing, example demonstration and word of mouth are focused. There were 3 methods of folk wisdom teaching namely material, equipment and tool preparation, material and equipment indication, and actual operation. The teaching media was persons who were relatives, neighbors, and actual media. There were 4 aspects of knowledge obtained from folk wisdom decoding which were folk wisdom aspect, such as that handicraft folk wisdom of people in the community was made for use in household as many people in the community were farmers; education aspect, such as that there was the methods of teaching to descendants for conservation; social and cultural aspect such as that the folk wisdom could imply the lifestyle of people in the community where people talked to and shared opinions with each other; and economic aspect such as that the people can pursue career using folk wisdom to generate income for family.
