COMMUNITY TOURISM MANAGEMENT CASE STUDY : BAN LAEM HOMESTAY THA SALA SUBDISTRICT THA SALA DISSTRICT NAKHON SI THAMMARAT PROVINCE

Abstract

This research studied 1) community tourism management of Ban Laem Homestay, Tha Sala subdistrict, Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province;2) related organizational problems and obstacles; and 3) proposed guidelines for improvement. Qualitative research was done with data gathered by in-depth interviews with seven members of the Ban Laem Homestay Mangrove Forest Conservation Group community enterprise group.

               Results were that 1) planning for future tourist reception and activities has been prepared; 2) a formal organizational aspect of authority and duties clearly divides work responsibilities; 3) appropriate staffing for each department has been arranged, including a group leader for each division to carry out its operations, with informed, train personnel serving tourists; 4) administration decisions are made with work coordinated and linked by assignment of roles and responsibilities according to the organizational structure; 5) coordination by the group president and vice president comprises distributing information to the head of each work group for task assignment to other personnel; 6) group members are overseen by group leaders, who report to the group president to find solutions to any issues; and 7) operational budget management copes with all challenges.

               Problems and obstacles included lack of funding, public relations, skill development, and public utilities.

               In terms of guidelines, development was needed of 1) a vocational training center/natural learning resource; 2) public relations and marketing; 3) staff skills and knowledge and 4) public utilities
