Exploring the Cebuano Culture Through Sinulog Festival in Promoting Aviation Tourism

Abstract

This study explored whether the Cebuano culture through the Sinulog
Festival truly promotes aviation tourism in Cebu. A descriptive quantitative
method of research was employed to select fifty (50) local and foreign
tourists using a researchers-made questionnaire. It likewise analyzes the
relationship between culture and aviation tourism, which are said to be
entwined and affect each other and focuses on the rooted meaning of the
different contributors that promote aviation tourism. Findings revealed that
the majority of the respondents are local tourists, aged 40 and above,
majority are female and visit Cebu for sinulog festival very often for their

devotion to the Patron Saint, Snr. Sto. Niño and at the same time for their
leisure. As part of their devotion, they engage in different activities such as
Sinulog Grand Parade, Mañanita Mass/Pontifical Mass at the Basilica del
Sto. Niño, food trips, while some engage in tours of the city's heritage and
white sand beaches. Results also revealed in the quantitative data a very high
mean, which means that respondents strongly agree that the sinulog festival
truly promotes the aviation tourism of the island through its products like
lechon, delicacies, and indigenous handicrafts; through its dances like the
famous sinulog dance, dinagyang, and kadayawan which are being danced
in sinulog step; and through its costumes like the maria clara and tribal. This
