SCOUTING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: DESIGNING SCOUTING ACTIVITIES ON PRANG KU CHAIYAPHUM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Scouting is an activity outlined in the Thai educational curriculum. The objective of scouting is to train and develop children and youth into responsible and engaged citizens. Nowadays, the state of the world is evolving rapidly, which also affects the nature of children. As such, it is important to design scouting activities that align with the changes happening in the world today. The objective of this article is to design a Scout training activity on Prang Ku Chaiyaphum using an approach that integrates learning for sustainable development. This research adopts a qualitative design. The methods used to establish and assess the quality of the Scouting activities created by the researcher include document review, Scouting activity design, and meetings with experts. The Scouting activity on Prang Ku Chaiyaphum consists of five teaching steps, primarily integrating history with technology, mathematics, design, and economics. Furthermore, the activity emphasizes utilizing the knowledge gained to produce works and reflect on learning outcomes, aiming to foster awareness of civic responsibilities towards the community, society, and the nation. Therefore, it is crucial to shift teachers' perspectives on organizing scouting activities. If teachers responsible for these activities can adjust their viewpoints and activity formats to connect with real-world contexts, scouting activities will become more meaningful for the scouts' lives.
