Abstract

Research on slim boats: Ban Chian Yai Chian Yai District Nakhon Si Thammarat Province It is qualitative research. The objective is to study the history of the streamlined boat. and to study the construction process of the Ban Chian Preaw boat. The study was based on a sample group using purposive selection, including the main informant, Songtham. Phu Phakdeephan, boat builder and deputy informant Narachai Kesaro, who has experience in participating in the Preaw boat activities.


The results of the study found that there is a history linked to the way of life. Most Ban Chian people have residences and occupations that depend on the water. which the Pak Phanang River It is like the heart of the big Chian people. The Ban Chian community uses streamlined boats as vehicles for traveling between each other, doing trade, looking for food, and for competing. In the past, the Preaw boat was a dredger. from the whole tree But later, due to the environment where there were no large trees left. Therefore, it must be applied to the characteristics of the ship. Preaw boat people have beliefs and rituals to worship Mae Yanang, worship the boat, Mae Yanang Ruea. It is the ritual and worship of Mae Yanang Ruea. Sailors believe that Each boat has a Mae Yanang to protect it. Therefore, before leaving the boat or before competing Sailors will perform a worship ceremony or Bai Sri ceremony to honor Mae Yanang according to the ancient recipe. Rowers and villagers After the activity is finished, there will be a boat raising ceremony, an offering, a sacrifice to thank Mae Yanang Ruea, Mae Kongkha, Mae Earth, and is considered a social gathering of rowers as well. And the study of the study of the construction process of the Preaw boat found that boat makers like to dig up the entire Takhianthong tree. Because it is hard wood that is tough, does not rot easily, floats on water, and shoots water well. If taken care of well, it will last for hundreds of years. Importantly, it is believed that there are nymphs. or the strong spirit that resides When it is dug into a long boat, it invites nymphs to climb up into it. “Mae Yanang Ruea” Most long boats like to name their boats with the prefix Chao Mae or Thep. The process of building a slim boat is 7 steps: digging the boat stirrups, starting the boat, laying out the boat rowing row, placing the boat krathong, krathong, and attaching the boat bow. Attaching the boat and naming ships
